A fun week of sewing and planting!

I have enjoyed sewing a few projects and doing a little planting in the 2 days that I actually had off this week. The nursery has gotten sooo busy with people enjoying the sunny weather that we have been having. Everyone is so anxious to replace all the plants that they lost in the awful frosts that we had this past winter. I am working long days and even added a day so it is amazing that I found the time and energy to fit in a little sewing. It was a good way to relax and enjoy some quiet time.

I made some lavender sachets to freshen our cars. The lavender was from our very own plants. I also made a gardening apron that I have found quite useful at work since I always need pockets to carry business cards and pens and tags and much more.

The weather has been so wonderful until today when we got a little rain which was kind of a blessing since it gave us some quiet time at the nursery which I used to get organized...always a good thing at this busy time of the year. Looks like we should be back into wonderful weather again by the weekend.

Everything's coming up Tomatoes!

The tomato plants are all growing and soon could be taking over the apartment. The weather has been so beautiful though that they will soon be able to leave us and go to their new homes in our garden plots. We are growing about 12 varieties this year and only one pepper that we have had as a favorite for a few years. We call the pepper 'Kappa Yappi', not sure if that is it's real name, but we save seeds from it every year and grow more the next year. Most of our tomatoes are grown from our own seeds also, but we do like to order new ones too. I order the vegetables for the nursery where I work so I try some of those every year too...I get excited just thinking about growing all those vegetables and herbs. I like to try to create whole meals that are about 80% from my garden. I would love to live on a small farm where I could have chickens and fruit trees and big wonderful gardens...a dream I have had for a very long time. Maybe one day that will be possible, but for now I will grow whatever I can where I am planted!

Hope this little gnome brings lots of good luck to my future harvest! I see a freezer full of tomato sauce in my future...the garlic is already growing now I just need some basil.

Recycled Cup O' Joe

Here is my latest sewing project. Completed in just about an hour. I went through the sweaters on a $1 rack at the thrift store and got a few sweaters to shrink for felt. Not a lot of colors to pick from yet, but I made this from what I found.

I got the tutorial from Betz White's visit to Martha Stewart. I think the tutorial is on Martha's website, but Betz may have it also on her blog. She makes the cutest cupcakes and now bunnies and even has a book coming out this year. Check out her blog by clicking on my link on my inspiration list or here. There are so many creative people out there who are making their ideas available to others and I thank them. They are making things available for us to buy and create that will be cherished for years to come and anything that is not mass produced is surely special in my book!

Pictures for Anastacia's Mom

Anastacia is a co-worker of mine who is hard working and very creative. She designed an area for the cactus and succulents that we ordered together. She had a lot of fun with it and wanted to share it with her Mom who is in Iraq so I am posting the pictures here in hopes that her Mom can take a look at just one of the wonderful things her daughter is doing while she is gone. This is a woman a little older than me who is dedicated to serving our country and this is not the first time. I would like to thank her with all my heart and say that I admire her dedication and am hoping and praying that she will soon be done with this part of her life and come home to spend time with her friends and family that are missing her . I hope that when she does come home I will get to meet her and thank her in person.
